Browse All LabelsMinimal techno and minimal house strips electronic music back to its essential elements — precise rhythms, subtle texture, and hypnotic repetition. Born from the late 1990s Berlin scene and associated with artists like Richie Hawtin and Ricardo Villalobos, minimal has influenced virtually every strand of modern underground electronic music.
Minimal labels value restraint, precision, and depth. Every element in a minimal track must serve a purpose — there is nowhere to hide behind unnecessary layers or production tricks. The groove must be impeccable, the space between sounds is as important as the sounds themselves, and the track must sustain interest across a long runtime through subtle evolution rather than dramatic arrangement shifts.
Minimal is a genre where less is almost always more. The biggest mistake new producers make when submitting to minimal labels is overproduction — adding elements that dilute the core groove. Listen to the label's last 20 releases and identify what they consistently do and don't include. Then subtract, not add.

Keinemusik is not the type of record label as you know it. When putting out a record, the guys will wrap it up personally, before it ends up in the stores or on your turntable. Keinemusik is a DIY-operation. Not, because it makes that imposing impression or because they like to wallow in nostalgia, just because it feels right. Keinemusik is a network with the label as the pulse pumping centre. Everything happening there gets onto Keinemusik.com on time and bilingual. But above all, Keinemusik is the spirit that moves the collective behind the imprint. The spirit to find the own agenda and let nobody get in the way. The spirit of refining House and Techno off the beaten track. Be it within their own tracks, within productions of other sorts or DJ-sets. The spirit of recall value within record- and flyer-artworks and everything intermediate in word and image surrounding releases and parties. Keinemusik has been around since 2009. It has been naming an existing friendship and linked interests of six members – five DJs and one graphic designer and painter. Five releases per year have been released ever since, solely laid down by members of the crew. The headquarter can be found in Stattbad Wedding since 2012 – undoubtedly the best place in Berlin to translate the vibe of the city into beats. If there’s a credo, it would be: you don’t necessarily need to be overly serious to be taken seriously. Welcome to the party, brothers and sisters.

Kompakt is a Cologne-based electronic music independent record label and vinyl/CD distributor, owned by Wolfgang Voigt, Michael Mayer and Jürgen Paape. They specialize in microhouse and minimal techno, and are known for their Total compilation series.
Minimal techno is defined by its sparse, stripped-back production approach — using fewer elements than traditional techno, with an emphasis on subtle rhythmic variation, texture, and hypnotic repetition over dramatic builds and drops. Tracks typically run long (8–12 minutes). Key characteristics include: clean, precise drum programming, subtle use of space and silence, slowly evolving synthesiser textures, and a focus on groove over melody.
Respected minimal labels include Perlon, Sender, and Deeply Rooted. These labels are highly selective and release infrequently. Building a relationship with the label community through live performance and peer-to-peer networking is often as important as the quality of the demo itself.
A useful test: mute every element in your track and add them back one by one. If the track is still interesting after three or four elements, you have the core of a minimal track. If you need seven or eight elements before it feels complete, it may be over-produced for the minimal market. Compare your track to the label's recent releases — the gap between your production and theirs is your roadmap.
