Miguel Steward (born December 6, 1972), known as Miguel Migs, is an American deep house DJ and producer from San Francisco, California, and the founder of Salted Music. Growing up in Northern California on his parents' diverse collection of classic rock, blues, funk, soul, and reggae records, he developed an eclectic musical palette that would define his signature sound. His musical journey began after picking up a guitar in his early teenage years, first writing songs and playing in dub/reggae bands including Zion Sounds in Santa Cruz. In the early '90s he connected to the soulful sounds of deep house and by the mid-'90s began experimenting with electronic music production. His production debut came in 1998 with "The Mercury Lounge EP" on La Casa Records. That same year, he co-founded Transport Recordings with fellow DJ MFR and Naked Music's Bruno Ybarra. Migs first gained international attention with his Naked Music recordings under the alias Petalpusher, releasing soul-drenched deep house that helped define the West Coast sound. DJ Mag credited him as one of the pioneers of the house and chill-out revival alongside Dimitri from Paris and Bob Sinclair. His debut album "Colorful You" (2002) on Astralwerks/Naked Music reached #14 on the Top Electronic Albums chart. In 2004, he founded Salted Music as a creative outlet for forward-thinking, soul-based electronic music. His album "Those Things" (2007) won the 7th Annual Independent Music Awards for Best Dance/Electronica Album, while "Outside the Skyline" (2011) debuted in the iTunes top 10 dance chart and featured collaborations with Evelyn "Champagne" King, Meshell Ndegeocello, Half-Pint, Bebel Gilberto, and Lisa Shaw. Whether tackling original productions or remixes, Migs achieves an organic-soulful sound by combining the best of the electronic world with live instrumentation — writing his own lyrics and playing guitar, bass, percussion, and keyboards. His discography spans over 100 original productions and remixes on labels including Salted Music, Naked Music, Astralwerks, Om Records, Defected Records, Yoshitoshi, NRK, and many others. His music has featured on TV shows including Six Feet Under, Sex and the City, and MTV's Road Rules.
